We recycle ! Passing the mouse over the red dots, find out how many plastic items of our daily life are collected and recycled.

They give life to new products and contribute to the circular economy.

  • Roofcollect cares for collection, sorting and recycling of PVC membranes into new raw materials. Producers of PVC construction products use those for diverse applications. More information on www.roofcollect.com

  • Deceuninck collects on construction sites and in container parks old PVC windows, doors, shutters, wall covering panels… they are recycled in Dixmude into new PVC windows and other construction products. More info on www.energiezuinigeramen.be

  • Active in 18 European countries amongst which Belgium, Recovynil promotes the collection, sorting and recycling of all types of post-consumer PVC waste, like gutters and many others.  Indaver and Rulo are their main contacts in Belgium. More info on www.recovinyl.com

  • Verpola collects EPS waste in containers parks. After treatment it is mixed to produce insulation mortar. More info on www.verpola.be

  • Plastic construction packaging also has its material closed loop system thanks to Clean Site System. An easy bags distribution allows collecting plastic construction packaging at construction wholesalers. They find a new life in buckets, tubes, new packaging… www.cleansitesystem.be

  • Kurio organizes the collection, sorting, treating and reuse of gas and water pipes. With 10 collection sites in Belgium, every entrepreneur finds one in its region. More info on www.kurio.be

  • VinyLoop® allows to recycle PVC composite waste, such as electric cables or composite membranes through a physical recycling technology that produces high quality R-PVC (recycled PVC) compounds. These compounds can be used in numerous applications like garden hoses, membranes and foils, coated textiles, soles, mats…More info on www.vinyloop.com

  • Deceuninck collects on construction sites and in container parks old PVC windows, doors, shutters, wall covering panels… they are recycled in Dixmude into new PVC windows and other construction products. More info on www.energiezuinigeramen.be

  • Recupel organises the collection and processing of discarded electro-appliances in Belgium. The plastic parts are recovered at 96% for reuse, recycling or energy production. 39% of the plastics which are not reused have been recycled. More information on www.recupel.be

  • Recupel organises the collection and processing of discarded electro-appliances in Belgium. The plastic parts are recovered at 96% for reuse, recycling or energy production. 39% of the plastics which are not reused have been recycled. More information on www.recupel.be

  • Federplast.be is a founding member of Febelauto, the management body responsible for end-of-life vehicles (ELV) in Belgium. The constituent materials are recovered for 93% of which 13% for reuse and 76% for recycling. The plastic parts can be recycled into new materials, but can also be converted into oil to substitute petroleum based fuel.  More information on www.febelauto.be

  • Federplast.be is a founding member of Fost Plus, the organization which promotes, coordinates, and finances the selective collection, sorting, and recycling of household packaging waste in Belgium. Fost Plus finances the collection of plastic bottles by means of the ‘blue bag system’. PET bottles are recycled into new bottles, other packaging containers and polyester textile fibres. HDPE bottles are recycled into e.g. drainage tubes. More information on www.fostplus.be

  • Many local communities are also collecting organic household waste. They use for this purpose special waste collection bags made from a plant based plastic or ‘bioplastic’ which is also compostable. More information on www.jemaco.be

  • More and more local communities collect not only the plastic bottles but also all the other household plastic waste. They do it by means of drop-off waste collection sites or by curb side collection, e.g. using a rose coloured plastic bag. The most important recycler of such mixed plastics waste is the company Ekol NV which recycles into plastic granulates or into thick-walled articles such a pond liners in substitution of tropical wood. More information on www.ekol.be and www.ecologics-garden.com

  • Agricultural film is collected by local authorities, farmers’ associations or private initiative. The collected plastic film is cleaned, washed and afterwards recycled into polyethylene granulates from which e.g. waste collection bags are manufactured. More information on www.soreplastic.com and www.cedo.com/philosophie/recycling

  • Recytyre develops sustainable uses for old tyres in Belgium. In 2011 nearly 80.000 tonnes of tyres have been recovered in a useful way, of which 85% have been recycled, including reuse and rethreading (17%). Rubber tyres that have not been recycled are used as a valuable resource in cement production. More information on www.recytyre.be

  • VAL-I-PAC was founded in 1997 on the initiative of the Belgian business community to promote and coordinate recycling of industrial packaging: pallets, pallet covers, stretch film, crates, cores, foamed packaging, … Transport pallets are also an important market for plastic recyclates. More than 73% of the industrial plastic packaging is recovered in a useful way, of which 55,5% by recycling. More information on www.valipac.be

  • A new system for recycling of pavements and WPC-planks is being studied. More information on www.Federplast.be

  • More than 1.100.000 matrasses are thrown away every year in Belgium. O-mat organizes selective collecting and recycling, mainly in pellets for combustion. Other applications are being studied. More information on www.o-mat.be

RecyMattress Belgium, a subsiduary of SITA, is contributing actively towards a system promoting selective collection and dismantling of end-of-life mattresses, yielding complex polymers (latex and polyurethane foams), textiles and metals. These materials can be used in diverse applications, such as car seats, underlays for flooring and insulation panels. Up to 85% of the materials is hence recycled! The remaining part is treated with recovery of energy. We close the loop! More information on www.sita.be
